InSight Symposium is a student-run academic event originating from and organized by the University of the Pacific AAPS-Pacific Student Chapter. InSight Symposium provides a unique opportunity for students and faculty from various universities to discuss and collaborate on all things pharmaceutical science.
6th Annual InSight Symposium
June 10-11, 2022
The 6th InSight Symposium was mainly hosted on Zoom by Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), and co-hosted by University of the Pacific (UOP), Touro University California (TUC), and Duquesne University (DUQ) in 2022. This entirely student-planned symposium allows a diverse group of talented, multinational students and faculty to share their research and encourage inter-university collaborations. We are pleased that this year, the participating universities have increased to include China Pharmaceutical University (CPU), Fudan University (FU), National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), and Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST).
In 2022 InSight Symposium, we were excited to have Dr. Mamoun Alhamadsheh from our School of Pharmacy to present his research project "Targeting ATTR Amyloidosis: The Story of AG10"; Dr. Yifan Lu who graduated from UOP in 2019 to discuss about career development; and four graduate students (Qing Zhang, Rifat Islam, Vanessa Rangel and Yiyuan Wang ) from our PCSP to present their posters during this event!
5th Annual InSight Symposium
June 4-5, 2021
The 5th InSight Symposium was successfully hosted on Zoom by the University of the Pacific (UOP) in 2021. This university & industry joint event was co-organized by Touro University California (TUC) and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). A diverse group of talented, multinational students and faculty to share their research and encourage inter-university collaborations. We were pleased to have several international Universities across the borders participate in our symposium, including the China Pharmaceutical University (CPU; Nanjing, China), Fudan University (FU; Shanghai, China), and Zhejiang University (ZJU; Hangzhou, China).
Our dean from Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy, Dr. Rae Matsumoto, did an encouraging and wonderful opening remark for our event. We were very grateful to have many well-known guest speakers from industrial companies, such as Genentech, Triastek, Inc., and Catalent Cell and Gene Therapy to support us by providing informative presentations on their current researches. Many outstanding researchers/professors were invited to share their work on the most innovative topics. We had in total 50 guest/faculty/student speakers and poster presenters to participate in our event, and more than 200 people from all over the world registered for our event.
4th Annual InSight Symposium
February 19-20, 2019
The 4th InSight Symposium was successfully hosted by University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and held at University of the Pacific (UOP) in 2019. This university & industry joint event was co-organized by the UCSF, UOP and China Pharmaceutical University (CPU; Nanjing, China). Dr. Leslie Benet from UCSF was invited as the keynote speaker. Many well-known guest speakers from industrial companies, such as Genentech and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, were invited to give presentations on their researches. In addition, around 50 professors and graduate students from UCSF, UC Berkeley, UOP and CPU participated as speakers and poster presenters.
3rd Asia-Pacific InSight Symposium
May 26-27, 2018
In 2018, our student chapter focused on fostering international relationships by co-organizing the 3rd Annual InSight Symposium with AAPS student chapters at University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and China Pharmaceutical University (CPU; Nanjing, China). This entirely student-planned symposium provided the opportunity for students and faculty from the three participating universities, together with the Nanjing Medical University, to share their researches and encourage collaborations. We were fortunate to invite the current AAPS president Dr. Christopher McCurdy to attend this meeting and provided us an informative presentation. The symposium was hosted by the students at CPU in Nanjing, China, with approximately 125 scientists in attendance. UCSF and UOP students were invited to visit the scientific and clinical laboratories in CPU and their Pharmacy Museum. Furthermore, a chartered tour was organized to visit Nanjing Sanhome Pharmaceutical Co.
2nd Asia-Pacific InSight Symposium
February 22-23, 2017
The 2nd Asia-Pacific InSight symposium was sponsored by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) and Post-doc Outreach and Development (SPOD). The symposium was hosted by the University of the Pacific (UOP) with over 100 attendees. Students and faculty from China Pharmaceutical University (CPU; Nanjing, China) and University of California San Francisco (UCSF) participated in our symposium. We had guest speakers from Gilead Sciences, Inc. and Precision NanoSystems US, Inc. UOP Provost Maria Pallavicini was invited to give an inspiring and thoughtful opening remarks for our symposium. Dr. Leslie Benet from UCSF, the founder of AAPS, was invited to give an impressive keynote speech. Dr. Jim Uchizono, the associate Provost of Research and Interim Dean of Graduate Studies, closed the symposium and highlighted that both research and friendship easily traverse barriers and boundaries via this event.
